KB943078 failed installation
I'll start by saying my Vista install is stable but I have previously posted in groups to say it does do some odd things - like contatntly asking me to asks to start Firefox and Outlook in safe mode as they have not shut down properly - suggestions so far have been Avast antivirus related - and/or permissions.

If I understand right you are advising to disable the real time AV appn (thinking of using avast antivirus) before I run an on demand appn (might use BitDefender). I am reinstalled Norton Internet Security 2007 (Vista version) and it has disabled Windows Defender. Are both these programs compatible please?

I even went as far as disabling the vista firewall to check to no avail. Since it doesn't do that I assume it will not connect under media center .. showing a private network, with discovery and sharing .......anyone have any ideas. No other firewall installed and using avast antivirus.
